The researchers at TEO and SURFIN laboratories of the Department of Chemistry and NIS Centre for nanostructured Interfaces and Surfaces of the University of Torino lead researches in the context of catalytic processes occurring at the surface of inorganic oxidic materials through ab initio modeling and experimental characterization based on spectroscopy, structural and thermodynamic approaches. The large knowhow accumulated since many years on catalytic materials (zeolites, MgO, silica, TiO2, etc.) is now refocused in the context of mineral surfaces as keys for the formation of biopolymers in the prebiotic context as well as studying the structure and reactivity of interstellar grains either bare or covered by ice. The added value is due to the synergic approach between simulation and experiments, as the atomistic details provided by the simulation strengthen the interpretation of the experimental data.
